The stampede occurred late Saturday as thousands of devotees gathered to board trains for the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Officials said overcrowding on platforms 14 and 15 triggered the chaos when two special trains were delayed.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw assured the public that the situation was under control. He said injured passengers had been taken to hospitals and additional trains were being arranged to manage the rush. The railway ministry has ordered a high-level probe into the incident.
