Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut on Thursday announced to increase capacity of Uran power plant by 1000 Megawatts in coming 2 years. The decision has been taken so that Mumbai doesn't face any power outage if present grids get failed, as it happened on 12th October.

On Oct 12, a major power breakdown brought Mumbai and parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region of Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts to the knees on Monday, owing to a major grid failure.

The power breakdown had hit the lifelines of Mumbai Central Railway and Western Railway with all local trains halting en route till Vasai and Diva.

The power failure had other impact like hitting water supply schedules, lifts getting stuck in some buildings, traffic signals leading to chaos on roads, among others.
