Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the Maharashtra government has been focusing on online education since June 2020. The government has adopted a digital approach to ensure that students' education is not disrupted. However, overuse of mobiles and computers is increasing the incidence of eye diseases in young children. It should be treated on time, ophthalmologist Dr. Anagha Herur recently advised.

Herur provided information on eye diseases and mucormycosis. She said that at present, the government has taken tough decisions and started work from home and online education. However, this has led to an increase in eye diseases. "Currently, mucormycosis infection is on the rise and it is important to have regular eye examinations to control it," he said.

Nowadays technology is used for both work and sports. This includes the screen of a mobile, computer or laptop, tablet. Staring at the screen increases strain on the eyes. This causes eye irritation, dryness, watery eyes and headaches. If you want to use digital devices, you need to take a 20 second break at least three times an hour. It is important to pay attention to the screen time and the way you sit, she said.

Online education has led to an increase in eye diseases in young children. Herur had approached the schools in Dombivli to inform them about the precautions to be taken to prevent such diseases. Herur had told the school management that there was a need to raise awareness among parents and guardians within a week's time. However, she lamented that the schools have not yet taken any initiative to create awareness on the issue.
