A night meant for colour and celebration took a distressing turn in the Sativali area of Vasai East on Monday when a car went out of control and crashed into a group of pedestrians, injuring seven to eight people. The incident unfolded at around 9:30 pm in the Maurya Nagar locality, where residents were participating in Holi and Dhulivadi festivities. The area was crowded with people marking the occasion when the vehicle suddenly surged ahead and entered the busy stretch. According to initial accounts, eight pedestrians were hit before the car finally came to a stop, leaving bystanders shocked and scrambling to understand what had just happened.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver allegedly pressed the accelerator by mistake instead of the brake, which caused the vehicle to speed forward uncontrollably into the crowd. The sudden collision created immediate panic in the neighbourhood, with people screaming and running for safety. Several locals quickly gathered at the spot and stepped in to help those who were injured. Without wasting time, residents arranged transport and shifted the victims to a nearby hospital to ensure they received urgent medical care. The swift response by locals helped prevent further chaos and ensured that the injured were attended to promptly.
The Valiv Police have taken the driver into custody and identified him as 49-year-old Mobin Monir Ahmed. Senior Police Inspector Dilip Ghuge of Valiv Police Station confirmed the occurrence and stated that a detailed investigation was currently underway. He said the injured persons were undergoing treatment and were reported to be in stable condition. Authorities are in the process of registering a formal First Information Report (FIR) in connection with the case. Police are also examining whether additional factors, including any mechanical malfunction in the vehicle or possible external distractions, may have contributed to the driver losing control.
