After the collapse of an illegal building in Shabhz village in Belapur, which claimed three lives and left two injured, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started taking action against dangerous buildings within its jurisdiction.

Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale ordered eviction actions on all dangerous buildings within the civic jurisdiction. Following this directive, Deputy Commissioner Babasaheb Rajale, along with department head Sadashiv Kavathe, inspected dangerous buildings in all four wards.

“Incidents of buildings and houses collapsing during the monsoon, resulting in loss of life and property, have been reported. In this context, eviction action has been taken on 47 out of a total of 79 dangerous buildings in the municipal area. Additionally, actions are underway to cut off electricity and water supplies to the remaining dangerous buildings,” said DMC Rajale.

Meanwhile, Balsaraf Chawl in New Panvel, under D Ward (Panvel), was declared dangerous, and a notice was issued for vacating the chawl. “On July 30, with the assistance of the police administration and under the provisions of Section 268, Sub-section (5) of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1949, the civic body carried out the eviction action on this chawl,” said an official.

In addition, eviction action was recently taken on a dangerous bungalow near Thane Naka under D Ward (Panvel). Demolition action was carried out on the dangerous staff quarters of the PMC on Thane Naka Road. Eviction action is also ongoing on the three-story dangerous building 'Burhani Manzil' near the Post Office Naka.
