Several parts of Mumbai received light rains bringing much-needed respite to the people from scorching heat on Monday morning.

In its daily weather bulletin issued on Saturday, Indian Metrological Department (IMD) had predicted rains in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. Rains lashed in Jogeshwari, Andheri, Vile Parle, Santacruz and Ghatkopar areas of Mumbai.

The IMD's head SID, Climate Research & Services at Pune, K S Hosalikar, tweeted, “Nowcast Warning issued at 2200Hrs Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & mod to intense spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40kmph is likely to occur at isol places in districts of Mumbai & Palghar during next 3 hours. Take precautions while moving out.”

The precipitation and gusty winds brought the mercury down to 31 degrees Celsius.
