Maharashtra has ben reporting highest number of covid cases. Especially big cities like Mumbai and Pune have reported huge surge in covid cases. In order to curb the spread, the state government has imposed lockdown across the state.

To keep a check on how police behave with citzens, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash disguised as a common man and went to three police stations – Hinjawadi, Wakad, and Pimpri. The staff at the first two police stations impressed him, however, the on-duty policemen at Pimpri police station were found not doing their job upto the mark.

On Wednesday night, IPS officer Krishna Prakash who is also known for his good command over Urdu language, disguised as 'Jamalkhan Kamalkhan Pathan’, wearing a kurta and skull cap. The officier to make his look complete also wore a fake beard and a henna-coloured wigt. ACP Prerna Katte acted as his ‘Begum’ (wife).

The commissioner, posing as Pathan, made the first visit to Hinjawadi police station and Wakad police station, where he observed officers doing their job efficiently. While with Pimpri police station, he first made a call to the police control room and complanied them about ambulance driver demanding Rs 8,000 for ferrying a COVID-19 positive patient to a hospital. The control room informed the Pimpri police station for taking further action on the call. However, instead of going to the complainant, the cops asked him to visit the police station. The ‘couple’ reached the police station. The couple told the policeman on duty that there is a loot going on in the name of ambulance services for COVID-19 patients and asked them to register a case and take action. The duty officer promptly responded by saying, “It is not our job” and asked him to go to Sant Tukaramnagar police station.

Pathan told him that he has read about Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash saying that police station can directly take complaints related to extortion in the name of medical facilities. However, the officer on duty did not budge. Pathan later revealed his true identity and took the officer to the task.

Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash said such surprise checks will also continue in the future to check the functioning of police personnel in the Pimpri Chinchwad Commissionerate.
