The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has sent a notice to social activist Girish Prabhune, who was recently awarded Padma Shri by the Central Government. The notice is for payment of property tax of Rs 1 crore 83 lakh.

PCMC has started issuing notices via 16 divisional tax collection offices and whoever has arrears above ₹25,000 have been given notice.

The Municipal Corporation has also issued a notice to Girish Prabhune's Punarutthan Samarasata Gurukulam, an NGO in Chinchwad. It has come to light that Prabhune's organization has paid tax up to Rs 3 crore. Notices have been issued to Girish Prabhune's Krantiveer Chapekar Smarak Samiti and Gurukulam Primary and Secondary Schools.

Thee notices were issued as per rules and it includes all the people who have not paid taxes. Notices has been issued to 325 property owners who have arrears above ₹25 lakh. The notice states that the arrears should be paid within seven to 15 days, the property will be sealed otherwise.

Prabhune was conferred with the Padma Shri award on January 26 while the notice was served to him on January 22. Notice to Prabhune, who is working for the upliftment of the Pardhi community and their children since 1970, has not gone well with political parties from the city.
