Protest to intensify if Navi Mumbai airport not named after DB Patil, locals warn Maha govt

The demand for naming the Navi Mumbai airport after social activist and former Parliam-entarian late Dinkar Balu Patil is not being considered by the Maharashtra government. The situation which arose at the time of the dispute over the renaming of Marathwada University. The locals have warned that the same situation may arise.

The locals of the area had held human chain agitation in Thane, Palghar and Raigad areas on 10th June. After that, an agitation will be held on June 24 in protest against the CIDCO.

Against this backdrop, a meeting of locals was held yesterday evening. The meeting was attended by BJP leader Jagannath Patil, MP Kapil Patil, MNS MLA Raju Patil, former Shiv Sena MLA Subhash Bhoir, Sangharsh Samiti vice-president Gulab Vaze, Congress state representative Santosh Keno and Ripai's Akunsh Gaikwad. 

State Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is adamant on naming the airport after Balasaheb Thackeray. No Chief Minister has named his leader so far. Uddhav Thackeray is the first Chief Minister.

The situation which arose at the time of the dispute over the renaming of Marathwada University. The locals have warned that the same situation may arise. Although the matter is being dealt with restraint now, in the future we won't follow restraint, warned the locals. 

MP Patil said that the real 'Bhumiputra' is the one who will participate in this movement. Aftre it was announced that Samruddhi Highway will be named after Balasaheb Thackeray. We did not oppose at that time. But tere is no reason for them to oppose Dinkar Balu Patil's name.

The proposal to name airport after late founder of the Shiv Sena was sanctioned by CIDCO in its board meeting. But the decision has sparked discontent with even local Sena leaders opposing the move. All parties in the area held had decided to form an all-party panel which will ask CIDCO to reconsider its decision.

The Congress and the NCP in the Mahavikas Aghadi government have not stated their role. As soon as their role becomes clear, every one of their workers will join this movement.
