In a significant breakthrough, Pune police have apprehended a fugitive criminal, Ganesh Rambhau Chavan, suspected of a chilling murder alongside a slew of other violent offenses. Chavan, aged 21 and a resident of Parandwadi, Shirgaon, Vadgaon Maval, allegedly orchestrated the brutal killing of his sister-in-law, Sunanda Chavan, with the assistance of his brother and the victim's husband, Laxman Chavan. The crime, born out of a family dispute, saw Sunanda's life ended by a fatal blow to the head with a stone, after which her body was buried on a hill near Pacharne village in Pune district. Shockingly, the perpetrators returned to the scene to celebrate, indulging in alcohol and mutton.

The Lonikand police, led by Constable Ajit Farandhe, received intelligence indicating the accused's frequent visits to the area. Acting on this information, they intensified surveillance efforts. On February 11, a breakthrough came when they received a tip-off suggesting Chavan's presence in the Lonikand Police station limits to meet his father-in-law. Swiftly, a trap was laid near Zilla Parishad school, resulting in the successful arrest of the accused. This operation, spearheaded by Senior Police Inspector Vishwajit Kaigade and his team including Assistant Inspectors Ravindra Godse and Kiran Padyal, alongside Constables Ajit Farande and Pratiksha Pansare, marks a significant victory for law enforcement. Chavan has now been transferred to the Shirgaon Parandwadi police station for further investigation. Subsequent inquiries unveiled a grim history of criminal activity, with Chavan facing charges at multiple police stations including Shirgaon Parandwadi, Chakan, Lonikand, Belwandi, and Ahmadnagar. Offenses range from murder (section 302 IPC) to theft (section 379 IPC), indicating a pattern of organized crime. Notably, Chavan was also wanted under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MOCCA), remaining at large until this recent apprehension.
