Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief has written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray requesting him to waive-off the unreasonable increase in the electricity bills for entire lockdown period and also ensure no one is compelled to pay this in future as well.

He also tweeted the letter captioning, "An immediate action needs to be taken by the government to stop the issuing of unreasonable and exorbitant electricity bills to the citizens."

In the letter, the MNS chief stated, "The bills for the month of June have been preposterous and the common man is in state of shock. The bills issued for the month of March, April and May were based on an average of usage. The next two months of June and July saw an exorbitant rise in the billing and the reason given was that, the deficit of the previous month was being adjusted. How can this action be ever justified?

MNS chief said that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it has caused devastation across the world, including Maharashtra. The lockdown has drained the economy ad many businesses have shut down. Salaries are either not being given or there are huge salary cuts. People have lost their jobs and in such an atmosphere of turbulence, wherein there is no ray of hope in sight, these unreasonable bills are a further attack on the vulnerable citizens.Whether it is private power companies, MSEDCL or BEST, all of them together have given a huge shock to the power consumers in the state, said MNS.
