Eknath Shinde, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, recently made a move that sparked rumours of a new split among the state's governing alliance - Mahayuti. The establishment of a "DCM medical aid cell" at Mantralaya was Shinde's decision. The new medical cell will be led by Mangesh Chivate, a close aide of Shinde.

Despite the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) cell's existence, the "DCM medical aid cell" was created. The move, which is likely the first of its sort in the state, coincides with a dispute between Mahayuti supporters in the Devendra Fadnavis-led administration over a number of matters, such as the nomination of guardian ministers.

Mangesh Chivate stated that the newly established unit will work with the state health ministry rather than disbursing funds. Although it won't offer direct financial assistance, the cell will work with the public health department. Rather, it seeks to improve the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana's implementation.

He stated that several social organisations would be used to coordinate financial assistance for patients in need. According to Chivate, the DCM medical aid cell is dedicated to making sure that patients receive free medical care.

During Shinde's time as Chief Minister, Chivate oversaw the CMRF, which provided a total of Rs. 267.5 crore to about 32,000 patients for expensive surgeries, such as organ transplants and specialised care for kids with thalassaemia and cochlear implant procedures, PTI reported.

Sanjay Shirsat, a Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra minister, stated on Monday that since Eknath Shinde's proposal to establish a health support unit is a welfare move, it should not be politicised.

Shirsat added that it was "inappropriate since the latter can exercise his right through the CM Relief Fund" for the chief minister to take charge of CSR funding.
