Samruddhi Expressway Update: Temporary Road Closure for Technical Upgrade, Disruptions Expected on This Route; Details Inside

Commuters traveling on Samruddhi Expressway likely to face traffic congestion on due to temporary road closure from February 9 to February 18, 2026 for technical upgradation work. According to MSRDC there will be temporary traffic blocks on the expressway for nine days as part of ongoing Highway Traffic Management System work. Motorists and travellers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

This work will be carried out in 10 phases, during this one side of highway will be temporarily closed in each phase. Traffic heading towards Mumbai or Nagpur will be completely stopped for 50-60 minutes at a time. Traffic will be resumed after the completion of each phase. In total, there are plans to install gantries in 21 phases on the highway.  The expressway connects to the Delhi Mumbai Expressway, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, and tourist destinations such as Ajanta Ellora Caves, Shirdi, Verul, and Lonar, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur from 16 to 8 hours.

The Samruddhi Expressway will be closed between kilometer markers 300.4 and 365.8 in Jalna district (Buldhana-Lonar, Deulgaon Raja, and Sindkhed Raja routes) for the installation of gantries. These gantries are part of the Samruddhi Highway Traffic Management System and will be used for speed monitoring, traffic rule enforcement, accident reporting, and emergency response. 

Accident Near Samruddhi Expressway 

A tanker carrying diesel gutted in fire after Collison with the tanker on Samruddhi Highway on Monday late night near Chainage No. 532 on the border of Ahilyanagar and Nashik districts. In this incident a tanker driver died, while  the truck driver was seriously injured. As per the e-sakal reports, the incident took place between Derde in Kopargaon taluka and Pathre in Sinnar taluka. A truck and a tanker carrying diesel collided and  since the tanker contained diesel, the fire took a violent form, which created the risk of a major explosion in the area.

Following the accident Kopargaon Municipal Council, the Kolhe Factory Fire Department and the Samruddhi Highway Rescue Team immediately rushed to the spot. Firefighters risked their lives to control the massive fire that broke out in the tanker within an hour. The accident completely disrupted traffic on the highway for about an hour. Police have rushed to the spot and normalized traffic.
