Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Ram Temple on August 5, said Swami Govind Dev Giri, Treasurer of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra Trust on Wednesday.

In an interview with Economic Times, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut targeted BJP and asked why it does not have the courage to own up to the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

His comments come in the wake of reports that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust has invited Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 50 VVIPs, to lay the foundation stone of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

“I don’t understand why the Centre is still keeping the case alive and letting Advaniji (92) and Joshiji (86) be dragged to the CBI court at this age. It is inexplicable,” said Raut.

“Since the Supreme Court has cleared construction of the Ram temple, what has stopped the Modi government from quickly initiating procedures to shut down the Babri Masjid demolition case, than letting BJP veterans LK Advani, MM Joshi and others appear before the special court?” he said.
