Mumbai: As the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker prepares to announce the verdict in the Shiv Sena disqualification case on Wednesday, a surprise meeting between Shinde faction minister Deepak Kesarkar and MNS chief Raj Thackeray has fueled speculation. The two reportedly met at Thackeray's Shivaji Park residence to discuss plans for cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar's memorial.

Focus on Cricket Coach's Memorial:

  • The meeting centered around erecting a statue of Ramakant Achrekar, who trained renowned cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli.
  • Kesarkar, serving as Guardian Minister for Sports, pledged to convene a meeting to assess the feasibility of the project.
  • He emphasized the importance of honoring Achrekar's contribution and inspiring future young players.

Disqualification Case Looms Large:

  • Kesarkar's statement, "Truth will prevail," was seen as an indirect reference to the impending verdict on the disqualification of MLAs from both factions.
  • He reiterated the Shinde faction's position that the Thackeray faction's amended party constitution lacked legal recognition.
  • He claimed that decisions taken by the Thackeray faction during the disputed period are therefore invalid.
