Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has sparked a political debate with his recent remarks on river cleanliness and religious faith. Speaking at an event in Chinchwad, Thackeray recalled an incident after his return from the Kumbh Mela, where Bala Nandgaonkar offered him water from a Kamandalu and asked if he would drink it. Thackeray declined, stating,

"Not a single river in the country is clean, yet we call the river Mother. Does faith have any meaning or not?" This statement has drawn sharp reactions, especially from Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader Sanjay Nirupam**, who accused Thackeray of insulting Hindu beliefs and Mother Ganga.

Reacting to Thackeray’s remarks, Sanjay Nirupam questioned whether the MNS chief was becoming anti-Sanatan Dharma. He stated:  "Over 60 crore Hindus took a holy dip in the Ganga at the Kumbh Mela despite hardships. By calling the river impure, Raj Thackeray has insulted Mother Ganga and Sanatan Dharma." He further accused Thackeray of political opportunism, hinting that the MNS leader might be shifting alliances ahead of elections. Nirupam warned,

"Mocking Sanatan Dharma will not be tolerated. Those who believe in it will never forgive Raj Thackeray."

Thackeray is known for changing political stances, often aligning with different parties during elections. His latest remarks have fueled speculation about his future political moves. With elections approaching, this controversy could impact MNS's political strategy and alliances.
