The Maharashtra government on Wednesday assured the Bombay high court that it would complete its probe into the TRP scam within 12 weeks. This time, the High Court issued an important order regarding the arrest of Arnab Goswami, the editor-in-chief of Republic Channel. The High Court has directed the Mumbai Police to issue a notice three days before his arrest.

A bench of Justices SS Shinde and Manish Pitale, while hearing the petition filed by ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd and Goswami seeking quashing of the FIR and charge sheet filed by Mumbai Police in the alleged TRP manipulation case seeking protection from police action and transfer of the case to the CBI, was informed by senior counsel Ashok Mundargi that the cases were solely intended to target his clients for adverse reportage against the police and state government.

Arnab Goswami is named as a suspect in the chargesheet, and therefore, the "sword" of impending arrest is left hanging over his head, it said. The high court will hear the matter on June 28.
