Final year exams in Maharashtra will be held online announced Higher Education Minister Uday Samant on Monday.

The decision to conduct online exams was discussed in a vice-chancellors’ committee meeting held on Sunday.

In the meeting panel discussed the feasibility of holding the examinations amid the corovirus pandemic. After this, the committee submitted its report to the government on Monday afternoon.

A decision has been taken on this and the entire month of September has been given to the students for study. Also, the exams will start from the first week of October, said Uday Samant.

These exams will be conducted in online mode and we will make arrangements to sit for the exams from home. The 100-mark paper weightage will be reduced and exam duration will be shrinked to one hour.

We will request the UGC to extend the deadline till October 31. For this, the state will hold a meeting of disaster management in two-three days, said Uday Samant.

Final-year college exams must be conducted by 30 September as directed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Supreme Court ruled on Friday, asking states to approach the UGC to defer them if the pandemic situation so warrants.

However, Samant has assured that the students will not have to step out of their house to appear fro exams.

State higher and technical education minister Uday Samant questioned the unlock guidelines of the Centre in a tweet: “How can examinations be held by September 30, if schools and colleges are closed. What exactly should the state governments and students do?”
