Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari who has not yet taken decision on nominating Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to the Legislative Council. He had also taken views of legal experts Advocate General in this matter. But now it seems like the final decision on the appointment will be taken only after Governor's discussion in Delhi.

In the first week of April the Maharashtra cabinet had sent a proposal to the governor requesting him to appoint Thackeray as a member of the Legislative Council.

On November 28, 2019, Thackeray took oath as chief minister of Maharashtra. He is currently not a member of either house of Maharashtra legislature.

As per the Constitution, Thackeray has to become member of the legislature by May 28. However, all elections were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the state cabinet on April 9 recommended that he be nominated to the Council from the governor's quota.
