Maharashtra minister Vijay Waddetiwar on Tuesday hinted that local train services in Mumbai for all might start for all from January 1, 2021. Waddetiwar said that the state government is discussing regarding the same and appropriate arrangements have been made.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had recently informed that it was planning to start local train services and a decision will be taken after December 15.

"If the Covid-19 spike gets averted, then we are planning to take a decision on resuming local trains for the general public after December 15," BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal had said.

The Maharashtra government had allowed workers considered to be essential service providers and women to travel by the locals.
