A shocking incident took place in Powai, where a scientist was attacked by two pet dogs, leaving her seriously injured. The woman had to undergo reconstructive surgery on her nose due to the severe wounds. The Powai Police have booked the dog owner along with their caretaker and house help on charges of negligence. At the time of the incident, the dog owner was abroad.

 

The injured woman, is a scientist working for a private company and resides in Powai. On Saturday morning, she was visiting the construction site of her new apartment in F-Block when the attack occurred. As soon as she stepped out of the building, two dogs jumped out of a vehicle. The dogs were accompanied by their caretaker, Atul Sawant, and the house help, Swati. The dogs’ owner, Divesh Virk, resides in apartment with his family.

 

 

According to the complaint, a brown dog under Swati’s care suddenly attacked complaint. When she tried to defend herself, a second black dog, handled by Sawant, also pounced on her. In her attempt to escape, complaint fell backward. "At that moment, the smaller black dog bit my nose and right thigh, causing severe injuries," she stated in her complaint.

 

 

Following the attack, complaint's father-in-law, along with local resident, rushed her to Hiranandani Hospital on Sunday and informed her husband. She remains admitted to the hospital, where she underwent reconstructive surgery on her nose. Sources confirmed that her condition is stable.

 

Her husband, a retired Indian Navy officer currently working as a private pilot, has also lodged a complaint with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), seeking action against the dog owner.

 

Based on complaint’s complaint, the Powai Police have registered a case against dog owner Divesh Virk, caretaker Atul Sawant, and house help Swati under Section 291 of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (negligent handling of animals). A police official stated that the trio would soon be served notices. Meanwhile, the police are also analyzing CCTV footage from the area to gather further evidence.

 

The police confirmed that complaint sustained injuries on her nose and leg, but her condition remains stable. Investigations are ongoing.
