Former Maharashtra Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique was laid to rest on Sunday. His mortal remains were carried from his residence in Bandra for a state funeral at Bada Qabrastan, where the final rites were conducted with full state honors.
NCP leaders, including Praful Patel, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Ajit Pawar, attended the last rites of Siddique at Bada Qabrastan.
The tragedy unfolded on Saturday night when Siddique sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai around 9:30 p.m. Despite extensive efforts from the medical team, including emergency resuscitation and intensive care, Siddique's condition was critical upon arrival. Dr. Jalil Parkar of Lilavati Hospital stated, “When he arrived, his pulse and blood pressure were unrecordable, and the ECG showed a flat line. We immediately moved him to the ICU, but unfortunately, we could not save him.”
In the wake of Siddique's death, Mumbai police have made arrests related to the case. Gurmail Singh, one of the accused from Haryana, and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh were apprehended. On Sunday, the Esplanade court in Mumbai remanded Gurmail Singh to Mumbai Crime Branch custody until October 21. The court also ordered the second accused to be presented again after an ossification test to determine his age.
