A 25-year-old youth lost his life in a tragic accident after a speeding tempo collided with an auto-rickshaw in Borivali West. The tempo driver fled the scene immediately after the incident. The MHB Colony Police have registered a case of negligence against the unidentified driver and have launched an investigation with the help of CCTV footage.

The deceased has been identified as Sunil Vishwakarma, a resident of Nalasopara East. Sunil and his father, Rajendra Vishwakarma (56), both carpenters by profession, had come to the Yogi Nagar area on New Link Road, Borivali West, for work on March 13. After finishing their work, they boarded a shared auto-rickshaw around 9 PM to return home.

A short distance from the pickup point, a speeding tempo rammed into the right side of the rickshaw with great force. Sunil, who was seated on that side, suffered serious head and leg injuries due to the impact. Seeing his son bleeding heavily from the head, Rajendra panicked, while the tempo driver fled the scene without offering any assistance.

Sunil was initially rushed to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali. Due to his critical condition, he was later shifted to Apex Hospital and subsequently to KEM Hospital, Parel, on March 15. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. Doctors confirmed that his death was caused by a severe head injury.

Following Sunil’s death, his father, Rajendra Vishwakarma, lodged a complaint against the unidentified tempo driver on Friday. Based on his statement, MHB Colony Police registered a case under BNS Sections 134(A), 134(B), 184, 106, 125(A), 125(B), and 281 for rash driving, causing an accident, and fleeing without providing medical aid.

Since Rajendra was in a state of shock during the incident, he could not note down the tempo's registration number. The police are now examining CCTV footage from the accident site to trace the accused driver. Additionally, they will also record the statement of the auto-rickshaw driver involved in the crash.

Sunil lived in Santosh Nagar, Nalasopara East, with his father and younger sister. His sudden demise has left his family in deep grief.
