In a serious incident at Subhash Nagar, Chembur, local police have booked the civil contractor, site engineer, supervisor, and labour contractor following a fatal construction accident. The mishap occurred at the Adityaraj Springs redevelopment project, a G+16 residential tower, when six workers were constructing loft walls on the sixth-floor parking area. Around 10 am, a temporary wooden plank that was being used as support gave way, causing all six workers to fall. During the fall, the site’s protective safety net reportedly tore, worsening the injuries sustained by the workers.
Ramanjenellu Deshpogu, 55, a native of Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, fell directly to the ground and died instantly. Gunadhar Rai, 22, from Jharkhand, sustained critical injuries and remains under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. Four other workers — Kush Rai, 30; Vijay Kumar Maurya, 35; Sandeep Kumar Rai, 27; and Ramesh Kumar Rai, 25 — were injured and are receiving medical care. Police officials noted preliminary lapses in safety measures and warned that additional accused could be named as the investigation progresses.

The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over safety standards at Mumbai’s high-rise redevelopment projects. Subhash Nagar, where several old buildings are being redeveloped, including Building No. 36, is witnessing rapid construction activity. At the time of the accident, work at the Adityaraj Springs tower had reached the eighth floor. Authorities emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent such fatal incidents, pointing out that negligence at construction sites not only endangers lives but also undermines public trust in redevelopment initiatives.
