The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a strong stand against rising encroachments around Mulund railway station. The T-Division of the corporation demolished 61 illegal structures on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) Road in Mulund West on Wednesday, February 11. The action cleared nearly 1,100 square metres in the station area, offering major relief to commuters.

The demolition drive was executed in a planned manner under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner (Zone 6) Santosh Kumar Dhonde and led by Assistant Commissioner (T Division) Yogita Kolhe. Four JCBs, seven dumpers and other machinery were used to remove the illegal structures. Seventy civic staff members and a large police contingent were deployed to ensure the operation proceeded without incident.

SVP Road is an important route in Mulund. Illegal constructions near the station had been causing severe traffic congestion every day. With their removal, the civic body expects smoother traffic flow and safer movement for pedestrians.

The BMC said unauthorised constructions disrupt the planned development of the city. The administration has warned that strict action against such encroachments will continue.
