A 27-year-old man was found dead in his Vasai Bungalow on March 19. He committed suicide by inhaling carbon monoxide from a cylinder. The cops are terming this incident an unusual way of committing suicide. The deceased was identified as Shrey Agarwal. His body was found in his rented bungalow in the Kamam region of Vasai.

Agarwal’s sister filed a missing person report with the Mumbai Police after she was unable to contact him from March 15. After getting a call from her, the cops started to look for Agarwal and found his body at the rented bungalow where he had been living for the last one year. The Mumbai Crime Branch traced his mobile location to Kaman and alerted the Naigaon Police.

When the police reached his door they found that the door was locked and they could detect a strong foul smell. At the door, a warning note was placed stating, “Carbon monoxide inside... don't switch on lights.” The Naigaon Police immediately called for the fire brigade. Firemen, equipped with PPE and breathing apparatus entered the bedroom using a hydraulic spreader cutter. There they uncovered a well-thought-out suicide.

Wearing a helmet, Agarwal had connected two carbon monoxide cylinders to his arms. He inhaled the lethal gas using a nebuliser attached to a tube that was attached to the cylinder. Firefighters carefully pulled the tube from his mouth and took it away from the cylinders. It was evident that Agarwal's body was swollen.

Police said that the deliberate nature of Shrey Agarwal’s actions, like sealing the bungalow and the warning note suggests that this was a calculative move with an intent to end his life.

He also left a suicide note police stated. They said, “The suicide note indicated that his decision to commit suicide was driven by the unbearable burden of his untreatable illness. The note is a key piece of evidence, is being examined to understand the mental state of Shrey Agarwal and the nature of his disease.”

The body and note have been sent for a post-mortem examination by the Naigaon Police. Locals are stunned by the tragedy and baffled by the strange suicide method. Police is still investigating this case.
