Mumbai will host the city leg of ‘EKAA – The One’, a travelling art and cultural project by renowned artist and researcher Dr. Beena Unnikrishnan, from January 31 to February 2, 2026, at the P. L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, Prabhadevi. The three-day exhibition, open daily from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, offers free entry to visitors.

The immersive exhibition features a striking series of paintings and a rare documentary screening, presenting a tribute to the 64 Yoginis — ancient feminine deities associated with wisdom, healing, strength, and transformation in early tantric traditions. The Mumbai showcase marks a key stop in the project’s nationwide journey aimed at reviving awareness of India’s forgotten sacred feminine heritage.

At the core of the project are 64 original paintings of the Yoginis, created by Dr. Unnikrishnan over a period of five years, beginning in 2015. Each artwork reflects the spiritual depth and symbolic power of these deities, whose temples once formed a vital part of India’s spiritual and architectural landscape.

The accompanying documentary film is the first comprehensive artistic chronicle of all 64 Yogini temples across India, offering viewers a rare visual exploration of these sacred spaces. Together, the exhibition and film provide insight into the cultural, architectural, and spiritual significance of the Yogini tradition.

Dr. Unnikrishnan describes ‘EKAA – The One’ as a movement towards balance, aimed at restoring the relevance of this ancient tradition in contemporary life. The title ‘EKAA’, meaning One Divine Energy, reflects the project’s philosophical foundation — that wholeness arises through the integration of complementary forces.

“For me, painting is a sacred practice,” she says. “The ritual happens with the brush. These Yoginis emerged through years of reading, travel, and reflection, not through sudden visions.
