Maharashtra’s former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has launched a sharp attack on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, claiming that his “sins have caught up with him” after he was removed from his post as Executive Director of Lilavati Hospital.

Deshmukh alleged that Singh had conspired to defame him by levelling false allegations during his tenure as Home Minister. “One by one, his corrupt activities are now coming to light. The humiliating manner in which Lilavati Hospital removed him has exposed his true face before the people of Maharashtra,” Deshmukh said.

According to information shared by the hospital’s trustees and doctors, Singh faces serious allegations of misconduct. It is alleged that he collected Rs 25 lakh each from several doctors on the pretext of facilitating promotions. In view of these alleged irregularities and misconduct, the hospital administration removed him from his position.

Referring to the 2021 explosives scare outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence Antilia, Deshmukh claimed that Singh had misled the government during the probe. He stated that due to doubts over the investigation, the case was handed over to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). “The ATS probe indicated serious signs that Param Bir Singh was the mastermind in the entire episode. That is why he was immediately removed and later dismissed from government service,” Deshmukh alleged.

Deshmukh further claimed that in an attempt to avoid dismissal, Singh had levelled allegations of a Rs 100 crore extortion racket against him. He said he had demanded an inquiry into the charges, following which a committee headed by Justice Chandival of the Bombay High Court was constituted. However, Singh allegedly failed to appear before the inquiry panel despite being summoned six times.

“Fearing arrest, he went absconding and later filed an affidavit through his lawyer stating that he had no evidence against me,” Deshmukh claimed.

The former Home Minister has now demanded a thorough investigation into the developments at Lilavati Hospital, stating that the matter involves serious allegations against a former senior police officer.
