A massive crowd of worshippers thronged the Babulnath Temple in Mumbai on Sunday, February 15, to celebrate the sacred festival of Mahashivaratri. Devotees queued patiently to offer prayers to Lord Shiva, presenting flowers, milk, and bel leaves at the revered Shiva Lingam inside the shrine. Authorities deployed adequate police personnel across the temple premises to regulate the gathering and maintain orderly movement. Among the visitors was noted filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who also performed rituals. Interacting with reporters, he expressed happiness after darshan, noting that pilgrims arrive from Mumbai and across India for blessings.

The chief priest, in a conversation with IANS, stated that several lakh devotees visit the temple annually to seek the blessings of Lord Mahadev, especially on Mahashivaratri. He highlighted the spiritual importance of the festival, explaining that prayers offered on this auspicious occasion are believed to bring fulfillment of wishes and divine grace. According to him, devotees observe rituals with deep faith, trusting that sincere worship of Lord Shiva on this sacred night helps remove obstacles and grants prosperity, peace, and spiritual upliftment in their lives.

Mahashivaratri holds immense religious significance in Hindu tradition as it commemorates the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and symbolizes the triumph of devotion over ignorance. Devotees observe fasts, chant sacred hymns, and stay awake through the night in reverence, believing that sincere prayers on this occasion cleanse past sins and pave the path toward spiritual growth. The festival is also considered an opportunity for self-reflection and inner transformation, as worshippers seek strength, wisdom, and blessings from Lord Mahadev for harmony, success, and well-being in their personal and professional lives.
