In a major crackdown on drug smuggling, the Customs Department at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), Mumbai, seized 56.26 kg of suspected Hydroponic Weed (Cannabis) on Monday. The illicit consignment, valued at approximately ₹56.26 crores, was recovered from five passengers arriving from Bangkok.

Acting on profiling-based intelligence, Customs officers intercepted the suspects and conducted a thorough search, leading to the discovery of the narcotic substances concealed inside their trolley bags. Following the seizure, all five passengers were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

Authorities are now conducting further investigations to trace the source and intended recipients of the contraband. This operation marks one of the biggest drug seizures at Mumbai airport in recent times, highlighting the Customs Department’s vigilance in combating international drug trafficking.
