A major fire broke out near South Mumbai’s Coastal Road on Sunday, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and triggering emergency response measures in the area. Large clouds of smoke were seen rising from the tetrapods and massive concrete blocks lining the seafront.

Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade rushed to the spot shortly after the blaze was reported and began firefighting operations to contain the flames. The Mumbai Traffic Police also reached the location to regulate vehicular movement and prevent congestion in the busy stretch.

As a precautionary measure, authorities temporarily closed the entrance of the Coastal Road tunnel while efforts to douse the fire continued, an official told Mid-Day.The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
