A 12-year-old boy housed at the Mankhurd Children's Home went missing on Monday around 4 PM, creating a stir among the staff and authorities. The staff has lodged a complaint at Trombay Police Station, and police teams have launched a search operation to trace the boy.

The Mankhurd Children home is one of eight such shelters in Mumbai, meant for orphans, underprivileged children, and those separated from their parents. According to reports, the children are usually allowed outdoor playtime between 4 PM and 6 PM daily. On Monday, as per routine, the children were sent out to play, but during the evening roll call at 6 PM, the staff noticed that three boys were missing.

While two of the boys returned shortly after, the 12-year-old remained untraceable. Despite continuous efforts by the staff to locate him till late at night, the child could not be found. The matter was immediately escalated, and the authorities reported the incident to the Trombay police.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case of kidnapping and further investigation is underway.
