Mumbai: 19-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead In Govandi, Four Arrested Within 24 Hours; Love Triangle Behind Murder
Within 24 hours of the sensational murder of a 19-year-old girl in Govandi’s Shivaji Nagar area, the Shivaji Nagar Police have arrested four persons, including the alleged shooter Tabassum, in connection with the crime.
The incident took place around 12 noon on Tuesday at Kamla Raman Nagar in Govandi, where 19-year-old Shifa Sheikh was shot dead. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the murder stemmed from a love triangle.
Police have arrested Tabassum, Nadeem, Kalam and Tabassum’s brother in connection with the case. Shifa lived with her family at Kamla Raman Nagar in Govandi. According to police sources, Shifa was in a relationship with Nadeem, who was also in a live-in relationship with Tabassum and staying at her residence.
Shifa had reportedly come to know about Nadeem’s relationship with Tabassum and that he was living with her. On Tuesday afternoon, she went to Tabassum’s house to confront them. At the time, Nadeem, Tabassum, her brother and Kalam were present in the house.
An argument broke out between Shifa and Tabassum over Nadeem. During the altercation, Kalam allegedly handed over a country-made pistol (desi katta) to Tabassum and instigated her to shoot. Acting on the provocation, Tabassum allegedly fired a shot at Shifa. The bullet entered through Shifa’s cheek and got lodged in her skull, causing her to collapse on the spot.
After the shooting, the accused allegedly carried the injured Shifa outside the house and fled from the scene. Local residents noticed her lying in an injured condition and rushed her to Shatabdi Hospital in an autorickshaw. The Shivaji Nagar Police were informed about the incident.
Doctors at Shatabdi Hospital examined Shifa and declared her dead before admission.
The Shivaji Nagar Police registered a case of murder and detained all four accused late Tuesday night. During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. The country-made pistol used in the offence has been seized.
Further investigation is underway.
