A 19-year-old woman was shot dead in broad daylight at Kamla Raman Nagar in Govandi’s Shivaji Nagar area, triggering panic in the eastern suburbs. Police sources said the murder is suspected to have occurred due to a love triangle.

The deceased has been identified as Shifa Sheikh, a resident of Kamla Raman Nagar slum in Shivaji Nagar, where she lived with her parents and siblings. Her father works as a small-time building contractor.

According to police, Shifa was allegedly in a relationship with a youth named Nadeem, who was also involved with another woman. Preliminary investigations suggest that this rivalry may have led to the fatal attack.

The incident occurred around 12 noon on Tuesday, when Shifa stepped out of her house to have breakfast. A short while later, she was found lying injured at a short distance from her residence. Locals immediately rushed her in an auto-rickshaw to Shatabdi Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Bullet injury marks were found on her neck and cheek.

On receiving information, Shivaji Nagar police rushed to the spot. However, it is still unclear where exactly the firing took place and who fired the shots. Statements of Shifa’s parents have been recorded, and the body has been sent to Rajawadi Hospital for post-mortem.

A case of murder has been registered against an unknown person, and a detailed investigation is underway. Police sources said the involvement of a woman shooter is being suspected. Efforts are on to trace Shifa’s boyfriend Nadeem and the woman allegedly in a relationship with him.

Police have seized Shifa’s mobile phone and are questioning her friends and relatives to piece together the sequence of events, sources added.
