A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Bangur Nagar Police Station for allegedly attacking his 32-year-old stepmother with a gym weight plate following a long-standing dispute over his father’s second marriage. The accused had fled after the assault but was later traced and arrested by a special police team.

The accused has been identified as Abdul Rehman Sabir Ansari (25), while the injured woman is Fatima Mohammad Sakir Ansari (32). After his arrest, a court remanded the accused to police custody in connection with the case.

According to police, the incident took place around 11:15 am on March 3 at Anwar Chawl in Goregaon. Fatima lives there with her husband Mohammad Sakir and four children. She had married Sakir four years ago. Sakir has four children from his first marriage, and the accused Abdul Rehman is his eldest son.

Police said Abdul Rehman had been angry about his father’s second marriage and had not accepted Fatima as his stepmother. Frequent arguments had been taking place between them for several months over the issue.

On February 27, 2026, a major argument had also occurred between the two, though relatives intervened and tried to resolve the dispute.

On the day of the incident, Fatima was unwell and was at home with two of her children, while her husband had gone to work. At around 11:15 am, Abdul Rehman arrived at the house and started arguing with her over the earlier dispute. As he allegedly began abusing her verbally, Fatima asked him not to use abusive language and questioned why he had come to her house.

Enraged by this, Abdul Rehman allegedly struck her on the head with a heavy gym weight plate, causing serious injuries. He fled the spot immediately after the attack.

Local residents rushed Fatima to Shatabdi Hospital, where she received primary medical treatment. She later narrated the incident to the police and lodged a complaint against her stepson.

Based on her complaint, the police registered a case and launched a search operation. After several days of investigation, a special team of the Bangur Nagar police arrested Abdul Rehman from Goregaon on March 7.
