An eight-year-old boy lost his life after accidentally falling into a water-filled construction pit in Malad East on Thursday, March 19, officials confirmed. The tragic incident took place in the evening when the child was reportedly trying to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the pit. What began as a routine attempt quickly turned fatal, highlighting the dangers posed by unsecured construction sites. The accident has raised serious concerns among local residents about safety measures at such locations, especially in densely populated areas where children frequently play in open spaces near ongoing construction activities.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm in the Chagan Patel Chawl area of Ambewadi, located in Kurar Village. The deceased has been identified as Divyansh Rajesh Mourya, aged eight. According to initial reports, the boy had gone near the construction site to collect his ball when he accidentally slipped and fell into a pit dug by Mauli Construction. The excavation site, which was reportedly left exposed, turned into a death trap due to the accumulation of water. Locals were left shocked by the sudden tragedy that unfolded in their neighbourhood.

Police officials from Kurar Village Police Station stated that the pit was filled with water, making rescue efforts more challenging and the situation extremely critical. After receiving information about the incident, police teams immediately rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation. The child was eventually pulled out of the water-filled pit and quickly transported to Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital in Kandivali for urgent medical attention. Emergency responders acted swiftly, but the delay caused by the depth and condition of the pit proved to be crucial.

Despite prompt medical intervention, the young boy could not be saved. Doctors at the hospital, including the attending Assistant Medical Officer (AMO), declared him dead after examination. The tragic death was later officially confirmed by the Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) from Kurar Village Police Station. Authorities have begun looking into the matter, though the exact circumstances leading to the incident are still under investigation. Further details are awaited as officials continue to examine whether negligence at the construction site played a role in the fatal accident.
