Mumbai Accident: 68-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit by Speeding Scooter in Ghatkopar

A pedestrian lost his life after being hit by a speeding scooter, while the scooter rider also sustained injuries in the accident. The incident took place around 8 PM on Tuesday at LBS Road, Gurunanak Nagar, in Ghatkopar West.

 

The deceased has been identified as Hastimal Jain (68), a resident of Nehru Nagar, Kurla East. Jain was a businessman who owned a gas stove sales and repair shop located in Azad Nagar, Ghatkopar West. On Tuesday night, after shutting his shop, Jain was heading home when a speeding scooter knocked him down near Gurunanak Nagar on LBS Road.

 

Both Jain and the scooter rider were seriously injured in the collision. A local autorickshaw driver rushed both victims to Rajawadi Hospital for immediate medical assistance. Despite the doctors' efforts, Hastimal Jain succumbed to his injuries around 11 PM.

 

The scooter rider, identified as Shahzad Khan, is reported to be in stable condition. According to police, Khan is a resident of Bail Bazar, Kurla, and works as a delivery boy for an online grocery supply company.

 

Following the incident, Ghatkopar Police have registered a case against Shahzad Khan under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police further informed that Khan has been formally arrested in connection with the case.
