Mumbai, Maharashtra (March 29, 2025): Two people died after speeding taxi collided head-on with a car on Elphinstone Bridge on Senapati Bapat Marg in Lower Parel around noon on Saturday. The impact was so powerful that the taxi was completely crushed. The taxi driver and a female passenger died on the spot. Police arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The exact cause of the accident is still unknown. However, officials said the absence of a divider on Elphinstone Bridge and high vehicle speed may have worsened the crash.
The accident took place near several corporate offices, where thousands of employees commute daily. Since it was a Saturday, traffic was lighter than usual, and the road was relatively clear. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding on the open road led to the crash. Police will review CCTV footage from the area to determine what happened. The footage is expected to provide important details about the accident.
