In a tragic incident highlighting the dangers faced by delivery personnel on Mumbai’s busy roads, a 35-year-old woman delivery rider lost her life after being run over by a speeding dumper in Chembur on Friday. The accident not only claimed the life of a hardworking mother but also left her two young daughters orphaned. The RCF Police have arrested the accused driver in connection with the case.

According to police officials, the deceased has been identified as Laxmi Mangesh Nandgaonkar (35), a resident of the Videocon Mahal area in Chembur, where she lived in a rented house with her daughters, Lavanya (12) and Aaradhya (8). Following the death of her husband nearly four years ago, Laxmi had taken on the sole responsibility of running the household. To make ends meet, she worked as a delivery rider, travelling across the city on her scooter to deliver goods.

The incident occurred on March 27 at around 4:40 pm. Laxmi was on her way to work, riding towards Mahul Road near Sanatan Vidyalaya in Chembur, when a dumper approaching from behind rammed into her scooter. Eyewitnesses stated that the vehicle was being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving Laxmi with critical head and chest injuries, leading to her death on the spot.

After the accident, the dumper driver fled the scene without stopping to help the victim or inform the authorities. The incident caused panic in the area, following which passersby alerted the police. Acting swiftly, the RCF Police tracked down and arrested the accused driver, identified as Aman Ramdarash Nishad (31), a resident of Chembur and originally from Uttar Pradesh.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the dumper was loaded with stone gravel and did not have a cleaner on board, raising serious concerns over safety compliance and operational negligence.

Laxmi’s death has devastated her family. Having already lost their father, her two daughters are now left without parental support. The deceased’s sister, Meenakshi Landge, has filed a complaint demanding strict action against the accused. Family members described Laxmi as the backbone of the household, and said her untimely death has shattered their lives.
