A shocking incident of an attempted kidnapping of a 45-day-old infant came to light in the Bandra West area of Mumbai. The accused, who allegedly tried to snatch the baby from a woman’s arms and flee, was bravely caught by alert local residents, who thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The Bandra Police have arrested the accused and initiated further investigation into the case.

According to police officials, the complainant, Hamad (25), resides with his family in Bandra West. He works at a private company. His family includes his wife and their 45-day-old son Musa.

On March 12, 2026, at around 6:30 pm, Hamad’s aunt Lubna had taken the infant Musa to a medical store located on Arun Kumar Vaidya Marg. At that time, an unidentified man suddenly approached her and attempted to snatch the baby from her arms and run away. The sudden incident created panic in the area.

Employees of the medical store and nearby citizens immediately rushed to help, intercepted the accused and safely rescued the baby from his clutches. However, taking advantage of the commotion, the accused managed to flee from the spot.

Later, around 7:30 pm, when Hamad returned to the same area, he found that some local residents had detained a suspicious person. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that the man had been caught while allegedly attempting to pick up another child and run away. Hamad immediately called Lubna to the spot, who identified the detained man as the same person who had earlier tried to abduct the 45-day-old infant.

After being informed about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and took the accused into custody. During interrogation, the accused was identified as Rajesh Nivrutti Jagtap (50), a resident of the Nana Chowk area.

Police have registered a case of attempted kidnapping against him and are investigating the motive behind his actions, including whether he was part of any larger child trafficking network.
