The tragic accident at a construction site in Subhash Nagar, Chembur claimed another life as labourer died. Tragedy occurred, on February 28, 2026, at the Adityaraj Springs redevelopment project were a makeshift platform collapsed, causing six workers to plunge from the sixth floor. As per the police worker climbed to the sixth-floor parking area to carry out loft wall construction work. A wooden plank had been placed as temporary support. At around 10 am, the plank reportedly gave way while all six men were standing on it, leading to the fall.
Ramanjenellu Deshpogu, 55, from Andhra Pradesh, died upon arrival at the hospital after falling at the site. Vijay Kumar Maurya, 35, from Uttar Pradesh, died Sunday night from injuries sustained in the same fall, including a traumatic amputation of his left leg and severe head trauma. Gunadhar Rai, 22, from Jharkhand, is critically injured and remains in intensive care.
Three other workers, Kush Rai, 30, Sandeep Kumar Rai, 27, and Ramesh Kumar Rai, 25, are also being treated for injuries. Chembur police have filed a case against six individuals under Sections 106(1), 125(a), 125(b), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly endangering human life through negligence.
Manilal Patel (62), the main contractor from Adityaraj Builders, along with engineer Rajanish Chaurasiya (30), site supervisor Subhash Bhagal (36), and labour contractor Budhwa Rai (50), have been served notices to appear before the police when summoned. Two other employees of the main contractor, Satish Patel (40) and Jitesh Patel (36), are currently absconding, according to police, who are continuing their investigation.
