In a major action that has dealt a blow to the image of the Mumbai Police, the Mumbai unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an Assistant Police Inspector posted at Khar Police Station for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1.50 lakh.

The arrested officer has been identified as Tushar Tatyasaheb Kale (40). According to ACB officials, Kale was investigating a criminal case related to a property dispute that was registered at the Bandra court. During the probe, the officer allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh from the complainant in order to submit an investigation report in favour of the complainant’s brother.

During subsequent discussions, the accused officer agreed to accept ₹1.50 lakh. However, the complainant was not willing to pay the bribe and approached the ACB office in Worli on January 19, 2026, to lodge a complaint.

Following the complaint, ACB officials conducted a verification on March 13 in the presence of independent panch witnesses, during which the demand for the bribe by the accused officer was confirmed. After verification, the ACB laid a trap.

On March 16, during the trap operation, API Kale was caught red-handed while accepting ₹1.50 lakh from the complainant.

The ACB has registered a case against the accused under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The officer is currently being interrogated and further investigation into the matter is underway.
