The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has busted an organised drug trafficking network in Mumbai that was supplying narcotics using a combination of motorcycles and cars. In an operation carried out in the Mankhurd area, the police arrested three accused red-handed and seized 110 grams of MD (mephedrone) valued at approximately ₹22 lakh.

Police investigations revealed that the gang was using motorcycles for reconnaissance and delivery, while cars were used for transporting and storing the main stock of drugs. The accused would first conduct surveillance of the area on a bike and, once satisfied that the situation was safe, would call for the drug consignment through a car. The narcotics were then supplied in small quantities using motorcycles.

According to the police, on the night of January 21, 2026, teams from the ATS and the Crime Detection Unit were on patrol. At around 4.30 am, a Honda City car and a Pulsar motorcycle moving nearby at PMGP Colony, Mankhurd, caught the attention of the police. On spotting the police, both vehicles attempted to flee in different directions, but the alert teams swiftly cordoned off the area and apprehended all three suspects.

During the search, 110 grams of MD drugs concealed in the car were recovered from Abdul Karim Bura Khan (33). The two men riding the motorcycle, Mohd Faizan Irfan Khan (23) and Azeemuddin Shahadat Ali Kudalakar (51), were accompanying the car to monitor the supply and for possible delivery, police said.

The accused allegedly accepted drug orders through mobile phones, though the code words used are still under investigation. Police stated that small consignments were delivered via motorcycle, while larger quantities were transported by car to avoid suspicion. Investigators expect crucial leads related to the drug network from the seized mobile phones.

The drugs, vehicles and mobile phones have been sealed and seized. A case has been registered at the Mankhurd police station, and further investigation is underway. Police officials said the operation has dealt a major blow to an active drug network in Mumbai’s eastern suburbs, and efforts are now on to trace the suppliers, financiers and buyers linked to the racket.
