Mumbai – The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has removed illegal encroachments on Kakkaya Shetty Road in Bhandup West (S Ward), demolishing 75 unauthorised structures, including 62 houses and 13 shops. The clearance operation has improved road accessibility in the area.

Before the drive, the stretch between Hind Rectifier Company and Kakkaya Shetty Road had narrowed to just 3 meters, causing severe congestion and forcing vehicles to take a 2-kilometer detour. Following the operation, the road has been expanded to 18.30 meters, allowing for smoother traffic movement and reducing travel time for residents.

Residents of Gavdevi and Tulsihetpada, who previously had to navigate lengthy detours, now benefit from a direct route of just 50 meters instead of 2 kilometers. The affected occupants had been relocated before the clearance drive, minimizing disruption.

This initiative is part of BMC's ongoing efforts to remove encroachments and enhance urban infrastructure, improving connectivity throughout Mumbai. The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner (Zone 6) Santoshkumar Dhonde and S Ward Assistant Commissioner Bhaskar Kasgikar, with a team of 80 workers, 30 engineers, and 15 police personnel using bulldozers and JCBs to complete the work.
