A late-night disagreement over a plate of keema pav and a contested bill turned into a violent clash at a hotel and bar in Ghatkopar West during the early hours of April 10. What began as a minor argument between customers and staff quickly escalated into a serious physical confrontation. Following the incident, the Ghatkopar Police registered a case against 14 individuals, including the establishment’s manager. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is currently in progress to determine the sequence of events and identify responsibility in the matter, while ensuring that appropriate legal action is taken against those involved in the disturbance.
According to the First Information Report, the complainant, Assistant Sub-Inspector Changdev Narayan Dangare, aged 54, was on routine patrol duty in a Nirbhaya mobile van on the night of April 9. At approximately 1:50 am, the police control room alerted officers about an ongoing altercation at Trilok Hotel and Bar situated along Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. Responding swiftly, the police team reached the location and found a group of around 14 to 15 individuals arguing aggressively. The verbal dispute had already turned into a physical fight, prompting officers to step in, control the situation, and detain those involved.
During the preliminary investigation, authorities identified four customers involved in the incident. These included Ulhas Bhimrao Vairat, 28, a trainer residing in Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar East; Gyanadev Balu Dhebe, 37, a driver from Tilak Road, Ghatkopar; Ashwin Pradeep Kadam, 36, an accountant also from Pant Nagar; and Nilesh Dilip Bait, 34, an engineer living in Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli East. On the hotel’s side, those involved included manager Sudhakar Vannaya Pujari, aged 58, along with a counter staff member, five waiters, and three helpers, all of whom were present during the altercation at the premises.
Both the customers and hotel staff reportedly acknowledged during questioning that the dispute began over the serving of keema pav and disagreements related to the bill amount. What started as a minor disagreement soon escalated into a full-blown fight involving multiple individuals. Based on the findings, the police registered a case under Section 194(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. Officials stated that further investigation is ongoing to gather additional evidence, examine witness statements, and determine the exact roles played by each individual involved in the incident.
