A case has been registered against newly elected Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Milind Vaidya for allegedly taking out an unauthorised victory procession in Mahim. The Mahim Police have also booked more than 40 of his supporters in connection with the incident.
Milind Vaidya, who won from Ward No. 182 in Mahim during the 2026 Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, secured a decisive victory by a margin of 14,248 votes. However, police have alleged that a victory rally was organised without prior permission after the election results were declared.
According to police officials, prohibitory orders were in force in the area till midnight of January 26. In view of these restrictions, the Mahim Police had rejected applications seeking permission to hold victory rallies on January 18, 22 and 24.
Despite the denial of permission, a victory procession was reportedly taken out in the Mahim area on January 24 between 5.30 pm and 8 pm. Police stated that loudspeakers were used and fireworks were set off during the rally, in violation of prohibitory orders.
Based on this, the Mahim Police have registered a case against Milind Vaidya, Vinay Akre, Avirat Shinde, Santosh Surve, Deepak Sawant and over 40 workers for unlawful assembly and violation of prohibitory orders.
Meanwhile, no official reaction has been received from corporator Vaidya or his associates regarding the police action. However, videos of the victory procession have reportedly been posted on their official social media handles.
Notably, in this election, Milind Vaidya had contested against BJP candidate Rajan Parkar and independent candidates Mahesh Dhanmehar. In the 2017 BMC elections as well, Ward 182 had witnessed a keen contest between the undivided Shiv Sena and the MNS. At that time, Milind Vaidya had won the seat with over 6,000 votes, while MNS candidate Rajan Parkar had finished second with 5,476 votes.
