A case of fraud amounting to ₹2.22 crore has been registered against two owners of a Kolkata-based company at Tilak Nagar Police Station. The complaint alleges that the company accepted an advance payment for steel supply but failed to deliver the promised quantity. The case has now been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing for further investigation, sources said.

 

According to the complaint, Dilip Madhukar Dalal (40), a resident of Dombivli, has been working as a manager at a company in Ghatkopar for the past 10 years. Since 2022, his company, Forton Steel Pvt. Ltd., has been procuring steel coils from the accused company in Kolkata. Initially, the accused company supplied the required raw materials, building trust with Forton Steel.

 

In 2024, the Kolkata-based company delivered steel three times to Forton Steel and provided proper invoices. Encouraged by this, Forton Steel placed an order for 1,000 tonnes of steel. While 500 tonnes were delivered and paid for, Forton Steel later made an advance payment of ₹3.02 crore for the remaining supply. However, the accused company only delivered steel worth ₹79.67 lakh, leaving 200 tonnes worth ₹2.22 crore undelivered.

 

The owners of the Kolkata-based company had assured delivery within 15 days and had even promised to refund the advance amount with 2% interest if the supply was not completed. However, even after eight months, neither the steel nor the refund was provided.

 

After repeated follow-ups, Forton Steel Pvt. Ltd. finally lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation has now been handed over to the Economic Offences Wing, which is conducting further inquiries.
