A long-standing dispute turned fatal on Sunday evening when a 35-year-old man was brutally murdered with sharp weapons on Tulshetpada Road in Bhandup West. The victim, identified as Shankar alias Kalli Brahmadev Prasad, succumbed to multiple injuries following a premeditated attack. Bhandup Police have registered a murder and conspiracy case against seven accused in the matter.

Police said Shankar was associated with scrap and construction-related work under local social activist Sajju Malik. Tensions had reportedly been brewing between the victim and the accused for several months, stemming from a quarrel that broke out in April 2025 over bursting firecrackers. The rivalry allegedly escalated over time, culminating in the deadly assault.

According to investigators, the incident occurred around 7:10 pm on Sunday (January 25), when Shankar was riding a motorcycle with a friend. Near Mount Mary School, the accused allegedly waylaid him and launched a coordinated attack. Arman Malik alias Aru, Javed alias Jabba and Pramod alias Pamya are said to have assaulted Shankar with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

Shankar was immediately rushed to Navkar Hospital; however, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Bablu Prasad, Bhandup Police booked Arman Malik alias Aru, Javed alias Jabba, Pramod alias Pamya, Ali Qureshi alias Lala, Akhtar alias Chhotu, Anwar alias Photu and Taufiq Qureshi alias Taka under Sections 103(1), 61(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act.

After the attack, the accused fled the area, prompting a joint operation by Bhandup Police and Mumbai Crime Branch Unit 7. Under the supervision of senior police inspector Atmaji Sawant, Crime Branch officials arrested six of the accused from Bhandup and neighbouring Thane areas. Further investigation is currently underway with Bhandup Police.
