Kandivali police have arrested a man for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 4-year-old boy in a brutal manner. A case of abduction and murder has been registered against the accused, who was identified as a friend of the victim's stepfather. According to the police, CCTV footage helped confirm the suspect’s identity.

On March 22, a suspect arrived on a bicycle and abducted the sleeping child. Later, he mercilessly killed the boy and returned to the crime scene, abandoning the body just 30 meters away from where the family was sleeping before fleeing. Initially, since the child's clothes were wet, police suspected drowning as the cause of death. However, upon closer examination, strangulation marks were found on the boy’s neck, confirming that he had been strangled to death.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Akshay Garud. However, the exact motive behind the crime remains unclear, and the police are conducting further investigations.

Police launched an in-depth investigation into the case and analyzed CCTV footage from the crime scene, which led them to the suspect. Finally, on Tuesday, the accused was arrested.

The deceased child lived with his parents in Kandivali East. A day before the incident, he had visited his grandmother in Iraniwadi, Kandivali West. His grandmother, who lives on the footpath, was with him at the time of the abduction. Around 2 AM, the accused arrived on a bicycle, picked up the sleeping boy, and took him away. About half an hour later, he dumped the child’s body at an under-construction site and fled.

Investigations have revealed that the accused was a friend of the child's stepfather. Police are now questioning him to uncover the motive behind this horrific crime.
