A heated argument over sitting in an auto rickshaw turned deadly in Mumbai when a minor allegedly stabbed a young man to death in the Kurla (East) area. The shocking incident occurred in the New Railway Colony locality and has created panic among residents. Police have begun questioning the minor accused in connection with the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Jayaram Naidu, a resident of the same Railway Colony area. Notably, this is the third murder reported in Mumbai in the last three days, raising concerns over rising violent incidents in the city.

According to the police, a case of murder has been registered at Nehru Nagar Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The incident took place around 9 pm on March 16, 2026, in front of Building No. 105 in New Railway Colony.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the dispute began over sitting in an auto rickshaw. An argument broke out between the deceased and the minor, which quickly escalated. Eyewitnesses said the altercation started as a minor verbal exchange but intensified within minutes. People present nearby attempted to intervene and calm the situation, but the dispute did not subside.

During the argument, the minor allegedly lost his temper and pulled out a sharp weapon, attacking Naidu. He reportedly stabbed the victim on the left side of his neck, inflicting a deep wound. Naidu collapsed on the spot in a pool of blood.

Local residents rushed to help and tried to assist the injured man, but he had already succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, panic spread across the locality. Residents immediately alerted the police. A team from Nehru Nagar Police Station reached the spot, conducted a panchnama of the scene, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Police officials said the minor is currently being questioned, and investigators are trying to ascertain the exact motive behind the crime. While it appears to be a case of a sudden dispute, police are also probing whether there was any prior enmity between the two.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

It may be noted that recently similar murder cases were reported in Mulund and Malvani, making this the third such incident in Mumbai within three days.
